About Rosacea and Redness

Rosacea is a common yet chronic skin condition characterized as skin redness, much like how your skin looks when you get sunburnt. There are many types of rosacea, all of which exhibit the familiar symptoms of persistent redness, and pustules (which are sometimes fluid-filled) and some types even affect the eyes. It persists in cycles, often triggered by many factors including temperature, stress, lifestyle, and even food.

At Canada MedLaser, we have treated and managed Roseacea in multiple areas of the body, most commonly the face and neck.

On more mild cases of redness, we can help you reduce the redness and calm the skin by prescribing topical or at-home remedies. But for more effective and long-lasting results, our team offers specific aesthetic treatments to choose from.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Redness is an extremely common skin symptom/condition that can be caused by a number of reasons. Some common causes of redness include rashes, burns, eczema from allergies or the weather, acne, rosacea, drug or topical allergies, skin infection, or more severe skin conditions.
On more mild cases of redness, you can reduce the redness and calm the skin by using topical or at home remedies. You can also get medical aesthetic treatments such as chemical peels, which will yield more effective and long-lasting results as opposed to using at home or topical solutions.
However, for individuals that experience prolonged cases of redness, more intense treatment options would be required to reduce the redness on the skin. Severe cases of redness are most common due to a skin condition called Rosacea.

Rosacea is a long-term skin disorder where the individual experiences a lot of redness on their faces, most commonly on the person’s cheeks, nose, forehead and chin area. On rare cases, redness can also be visible on the individual’s neck, chest and ears.

Symptoms of Rosacea include very itchy skin, stinging & burning sensations, pimples & bumps, enlarged pores, patches of dry skin, possible vision difficulties and sometimes, blood vessels can show through your skin.
There are a number of causes for rosacea. A lot of individuals who have rosacea have it because of genetics (it can happen to multiple members in the same family). Some individuals can also get this condition because of blood vessel issues, bacteria or mites.

Some people are more prone to rosacea than others. For example, individuals with lighter skin tones (skin type 1-3) or had severe acne are more likely to suffer from this skin condition. People with family members who have had rosacea, women and people who smoke can also develop rosacea easier than others.

There are a few common triggers that cause rosacea symptoms to emerge. Triggers include extreme weather conditions, hot baths, stress, intense exercise, alcohol & smoking, prolonged exposure to the sun, hot & spicy food/beverages or blood pressure and steroid medication.

There are no definite cures for conditions such as rosacea. However, rosacea can be reduced drastically, if the appropriate forms of treatments are used. Topical and oral medication are considered shot term solutions for rosacea. The patient will have to constantly be repurchasing such remedies that will not produce long term results.
Therefore, medical aesthetic treatments such as chemical peels, microneedling and laser skin treatments are always recommended when patients are seeking more effective and long-lasting remedies to reduce their rosacea conditions.

Chemical Peels are a great way to reduce rosacea and redness in general. Chemical Peels consists of an acid solution (that can be mild or medium) that is adjusted to fit the patient’s specific needs and it is applied to the face. After the chemical peel solution is applied to the patient’s face, the outermost layer of the skin is sluffed off and it allows your skin to regenerate itself. Ultimately, the redness and acne in your skin that you have experienced from rosacea will be dramatically reduced. Chemical Peels require very little downtime, cleanses your skin from within, and increases cell turnover rate. There are multiple types of chemical peels- each contains a different type of acid. Most chemical peels are composed of carefully customized portions of glycolic acid, salicylic acid (beta hydroxy acid BHA) or lactic acid (alpha hydroxyl acid AHA).
Chemical peels cannot completely treat rosacea, but it can significantly reduce the redness, acne and bumps that can be caused by it.

Laser Skin Treatments are also an effective way to treat rosacea and redness. At Canada MedLaser clinics, we use the Candela GentleMax Pro- a top of the line laser machine that provides long lasting results for skin treatments. A laser light is attracted to the pigment visible veins and redness, causing coagulation of the blood of the spider vein(s), resulting them to become invisible to the naked eye.
This dramatically reduces the redness and veins developed from rosacea. This treatment has little downtime, ha sminimal discomfort and the treatment can be as little as five minutes. To maintain the best results, sunscreen with SPF 30 and a pharmaceutical solution complex needs to be consistently applied to the skin after the treatment.

Microneedling, which is also known as Skin Needling or Collagen Induction Therapy is a skin treatment that also treats redness and rosacea. Tiny needles are used to puncture the skin, creating controlled injury. As the skin is being punctured with microneedles, your natural collagen rushes to the surface of the epidermal layers on your skin. The collagen then repairs any damage on the outer layers of the skin, plumps the skin and reduces the appearance of redness.
Microneedling skin treatments are safe, relatively painless, requires zero downtime and it is a natural form of treatment as no chemicals are involved. Microneedling has be done every four to six weeks, to maintain effective results, and it also helps with rejuvenating the skin.

At Canada MedLaser Clinics, we provide these three skin treatments for redness and rosacea. We ensure that each patient’s condition is carefully accessed, before performing any treatments. We are leading source for medical aesthetics in the GTA with locations in Toronto, Mississauga and Vaughan.
