    Frequently Asked Questions

Our age, hormones, and genetics affect the size of our pores. When pores are clogged, either as a result of acne or overly oily skin, it will cause the pores to expand and ultimately, they will become more visible. As skin ages or becomes sun damaged, it loses elasticity and starts to sag. This can make pores look larger, and even more so if they are already clogged. When pores are clogged, it will also cause them to stretch out, and therefore it is important to treat pore issues quickly and often. Pores are most commonly visible on the nose, forehead, and cheeks

The most effective ways to treat enlarged pores are through procedures that exfoliate the skin and tighten the skin. Canada MedLaser in Toronto offers several options that will decrease the size of your pores quickly and with minimal downtime and discomfort.

The Aquapure Facial is a 4-step microdermabrasion facial procedure takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour and promises total skin rejuvenation. It is suitable for all skin types and there is no preparation required for the facial. Using special handsets for each step, the Aquapure Facial will deep-cleanse and exfoliate the skin, removing all impurities from the pores. The procedure also promises to balance oily skin, as well as hydrate, lift, and tighten the skin. With the pores cleared and skin tightened, pores will be visibly minimized. Results are seen in one visit, however it is recommended to have multiple Aquapure sessions on a consistent basis in order to maintain long term results.

Microneedling treatments are customized as they can be used to treat a variety of skin concerns. For treating enlarged pores, tiny needles are poked into the skin of the affected areas to exfoliate it, reduce oiliness and to stimulate collagen production. When collagen is produced it helps plump the skin, and the exfoliation will increase the skin’s rate of regeneration, which will help shrink pores. For the best results, microneedling requires around 3-5 appointments.

In a chemical peel, an acid is applied to the skin that will cause layers of the skin to carefully peel off. Canada MedLaser uses glycolic acid peels, which are gentle but also effective. Glycolic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that is naturally occurring in food such as fruit and is safe for all skin types. Depending on the extent of skin damage and the needs of the patient, the strength of the glycolic acid peel can be superficial (1-7 days recovery time) to medium (up to 14 days recovery). When the old, dull layers of skin peel off, the new skin revealed underneath is smoother, brighter and tighter, with smaller pores and less wrinkles.

With a complementary consultation at Canada MedLaser, we can review your concerns regarding your large pores and determine which treatment is best for you.
